and how he managed to survive. >> morning to you. >> let's get right to jacqui jeras for today's weather. >> a warm start here this morning but we have some wet weather on the way. this is the satellite and radar picture. you can see a thin line at showers still well off to our west. probably not until late morning until we see some of that what weather arrived. that is good news for your morning commute but the temperature is great. 66 at reagan national and the same in gaithersburg and 62 in hagerstown. for today 60's through most of the day but we should top out around 72 degrees. the best chance of rain will come late in the day and some of the storms could be stronger in southern maryland. >> that is not bad on the roads this morning. from the greenway on to the toll road is open. 66 had a minor incident that is on the shoulder in the manassas area. in centreville, we will see some delays. there is volume on the increase. there is slowdown near acquia and we are still moving at speeds through alexandria and annandale. >> a three-alarm fire burned out last night in a storage

. we will have you coverage throughout the morning. jacqui jeras as an update on the storm. >> from the national hurricane center sandy has intensified a little, still a category one but the maximum winds are 85 miles an hour. the wind is huge. the tropical storm force winds between 39 and 73 miles an hour, extend out more and 500 miles from the center of the storm. so they are feeling that along the coastal areas already. the storm is 400 miles away from d.c. it will impact us all day. we will be going downhill. anything you still have to do to prepare for the storm, that needs to be done now. philip your bathtub, make sure anything loose outdoors has been secured. it's a good idea to spend a day in theless you arelood prone area. i want to talk about the waves. two big thrifts from the storm will be the flooding and the wind. adam caskey will be here in the second to talk about the flood threat. i want to talk about the wind. if it's gusting between 15 miles an hour to 25 miles an hour right now. but by this afternoon it will pick up. the tree limbs could start coming down as well

weather department with meteorologist jacqui jeras, first. >> still feeling the impact of sandy even though it made landfall around 8:00 last night. it's no longer a hurricane, but still packing a punch. rain continues coming down. we can see that on our satellite and radar composite. center circulation is up to our north. you can see that over central parts of pennsylvania. let's go ahead and take a look at our radar picture -- our super doppler. really heavy rain has developed along the east bay. look at baltimore and annapolis towards dunkirk, a good half- inch of rain per hour. the flooding has been a huge concern for us so far. look at the rainfall totals from the past 24 hours. annapolis, pushing 6 inches now. just over 4 inches at reagan national. 5.5 at dulles. about 3 inches in gaithersburg. just over 2 inches in fredericksburg. flood watches and warnings remain in effect across pretty much the entire viewing area. the wind is something we will have to deal with mostly this morning. we have seen cuts in the range of 25 or 30 miles an hour. a gust of 26 miles an hour just rep

jacqui jeras with the latest on hurricane sandy. 410 miles away from d.c. we're getting hit with rainfall pretty hard especially off to our east. it was moving all day yesterday northeast. now it's moving north. we will be watching later today to see if it turns towards the north and west and towards the coast. we expect it to potentially intensified a little. as it interacts with the trough to our west of that broad in the cold air. a couple things we need to be worried about today. since the storm system is expected to go north, are wind will probably stay north to northwesterly. a storm surge is not a huge problem for us, but heavy rain and flooding is expected. up to 8 inches, widespread. we could see isolated heavier amounts. river flooding could last through a good portion of the week. this shows how much grain we will expect. some of these models, it's just one computer model estimates. it's likely some of these numbers will be a little higher or lower. if you live in flood prone areas, expected flooding in your neighborhood. on the eastern shore and delmarva, we could see
